DEBUT ACCOMPANIED BY VIDEO STORY,“JAZZ IN THE WOODSHOP” BY SHOW LOVE – SOCIAL CONTENT FOR LOVABLE COMPANIES
Honouring the grace of simple forms and the harmony of minimalism, Moyer infuses warmth, whimsy and superb craftsmanship into an iconic American furniture collection.
NEW YORK – February 8, 2011 – America, craving an infusion of new design energy receives its due in a collection of striking, lush handmade wood furniture by Brooklyn-based designer-maker Daniel Moyer. These limited edition pieces, made from black walnut with contrasting black walnut ‘socks’ and black walnut ‘shoes’, will greet the public on Fab.com, February 12th with a soulful video documentary produced by Show Love (vimeo.com/showlove/woodshop).
These first two pieces in the collection are dubbed the “I Would Do Backsprings For You” chair and the “Honest I Would” table. The chair features a curved backspring of powder-coated aluminium secured to the chassis and backrest with extra large steel wingnuts. Both the tabletop and the chair seat float on threaded steel studs. The chair stands at 35 inches high, is 19 inches deep, and 16 inches wide. The table stands at 30 inches high, is 18 inches deep, and 36 inches wide.
The collection is inspired by “the geometry of ancient architecture, the weightlessness of wings, and the curve of a woman’s back” says Moyer, who started working in his father’s woodshop at age 8 but went on to study music working as a trained musician and composer for 25 years before dedicating himself fulltime to design. He opened up a Greenpoint studio in 2005 and the sun-drenched fully customized Bushwick studio shown in the video in 2008.
Show Love, the content company honouring the event, is dedicated to producing next generation social content and storytelling for “lovable” companies and projects. Earlier Show Love produced a “Jazz in the Woodshop” flipbook and video teaser in anticipation of this event.
